Dico Technologies designs, develops and manufactures devices that translate the movements allowed to the patient into letters, words, sentences, drawings and answers, which allow easy expression to people in precarious physical conditions
The problem
Instead of what is commonly believed, patients admitted to intensive care units also called “resuscitation”, and subjected to orotracheal intubation are not always comatose or deeply sedated.
On the contrary, these patients are often awake and conscious, but unable to communicate due to the presence of the orotracheal tube, which “mechanically” prevents the generation of sounds (phonation).
To the physical and psychological suffering, there is therefore added the frustration of not being able to communicate with health professionals or with loved ones, with the generation of an important immediate distress and a post-traumatic stress disorder, as shown by several studies.
Possible solutions
None of the solutions currently on the market have the characteristics necessary to adapt to an intensive care environment, which requires robust, ready and simple to use solutions that allow the patient a quick learning and independence from interaction with a specific operator.
Our solution
DICo ® is an innovative device, designed specifically to allow communication of patients temporarily unable to speak, such as those admitted to intensive care units with intubation or tracheostomy.
