Dico Technologies
Empowering the voiceless
Digitally Intensified Communication
Dico Technologies designs, develops and manufactures Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices, which allow people with speech disabilities to communicate in a simple and intuitive way, using their motor skills even when they are very limited.
Dico Technologies revolutionizes the way of communicating using the most advanced technologies in motion sensors with its software specially developed in-house, and a user interface that is immediately understandable.

The problem
There are many people every day who find themselves in the condition of not being able to communicate due to a speech disability and at the same time are bedridden or in a wheelchair. It is unfortunately a frequent condition for patients being treated after a stroke or trauma that has damaged the nervous system, for people with some degenerative diseases (from Parkinson’s to ALS and many others), the elderly who are not self-sufficient and for patients in rehabilitation and intensive care units.
In particular, in intensive care, patients who are not sedated are conscious, but unable to communicate because they are intubated or under other methods of assisted ventilation.
In addition to physical and psychological suffering, there is the frustration of not being able to communicate with healthcare personnel or the loved ones, generating a high level of immediate anxiety and a greater risk of post-traumatic stress disorder. This is just one of the many cases in which a person can find himself a prisoner of his own – involuntary – silence.
None of the proposals currently on the market has all the characteristics to respond to these problems. And this is were we started from to develop a technology answering to these patients and their caregivers.
Our solution
Dico Technologies provides a complete solution for Augmentative Alternative Communication (AAC) that is highly innovative and has a very fast learning curve, specifically designed to enable the communication of patients who are unable to speak, at hospital or at home.
The solution consists of a wearable wireless motion detector, a dedicated tablet and proprietary software, optimized with algorithms for interpreting the signals generated by the user interface designed for applications in the healthcare sector and with multilingual capabilities.
The motion sensor is applied to any part of the body the patient is able to move voluntarily, and it “translates” the movement into a message visible on a tablet, that can also be replicated with text to speech.
This approach revolutionizes the way patients connect and express themselves, allowing them to communicate effectively, bridging the gap between their thoughts and the outside world.
It is thus possible to achieve a facilitated, effective and unhindered communication experience. The technology adopted allows to achieve a high mastery of the instrument quickly and intuitively, and allows patients to express their needs, emotions and thoughts with ease.
We restore the ability to communicate for patients who are facing temporary or permanent language difficulties through all stages of the care and assistance pathway, promoting a sense of empowerment, dignity and radically improving the quality of life.
